Teaching Information and Resources:

I teach bassoon at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. More information on the music program at WSU and the application process is available at music.wayne.edu . I also teach private bassoon lessons at my home in Troy, MI and online to students from around the world. I also co-founded and serve as a faculty member for the Detroit Bassoon Seminar, a financially accessible summer seminar where motivated students of all experience levels can receive professional instruction in a welcoming and community-driven environment.

Depending on availability, a very limited number of regular lesson times may be availble for motivated young bassoonists in addition to individual coachings for all instruments. It reflects my observations on the most important elements of effective audition preparation, informed by my experience as both a performer and adjudicator in dozens of auditions. Practice Flowchart - Sometimes the best thing we can do when practicing is to simplify our strategy. This flowchart, developed in collaboration with Benjamin Kamins, helps break down our thought process into simple categories that hold us back: Hesitation, Indecision, and Confusion. By making simple choices and using our own success to guide us, we can reinforce our positive habits, build consistency, and develop confidence in our performing.

The Four Stages of Learning - This downloadable PDF introduces the Four Stages of Learning model as a practical framework for musicians, teachers, and students. It explains how skills move from unconscious incompetence, to conscious awareness, to deliberate control, and eventually toward automatic, expressive freedom. With a musician-centered perspective, this handout offers a clear way to understand why progress can feel uneven, why slow and intentional practice matters, and how technical work ultimately serves the goal of allowing musical decisions to lead the body.
